Jean-François Heisser | SWR Symphonieorchester | François-Xavier Roth

Tradition and modernity: Lachenmann meets Beethoven.
New worlds of sound: Helmut Lachenmann and Ludwig van Beethoven – two revolutionary composers whose works not only broke down musical boundaries, but also challenged the listening habits of their audiences.
For example, with »Ausklang«, a kind of anti-piano concerto for which Lachenmann designed one of his typical soundscapes, somewhere between noise and sound, demanding the listener's full concentration. During the premiere of his 7th Symphony, Beethoven surprised the audience with an »Orgie des Rhythmus« as French writer Romain Rolland described the symphony, repeatedly breaking away from the traditional symphonic form. With the SWR Sinfonieorchester, well versed in both tradition and modernity, the two composers are in the very best musical hands.
