Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich

»Hoffnungsmusik«
Big, bigger, Mahler! With a choir, solo singers and an orchestra requiring six horns and trumpets, an organ and a host of percussion instruments, Mahler's Second Symphony surpasses everything that has gone before. And to this day, its performance is always an experience!
Especially when Mahler specialist Paavo Järvi stands at the podium of his excellent Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich and confidently guides the sea of musicians and the performing masses on stage through the emotional extremes of the symphony. »Greatest distress« is followed by blissful weightlessness: »With wings I have gained, I will soar away! I will die in order to live!« sings the choir, letting the light of hope shine in radiant, warm colours. Never has this feeling been set to music in a more moving way.
