»Strand« und »Stump the Guesser«: Filme mit neuer Musik

1 additional date

Camille Saint-Saëns is considered the first musician to have written an original composition for a film. That was in 1908. Ever since, film and music have enjoyed a symbiotic relationship of mutual inspiration. It is also a very open relationship, as the young Slovene Nina Šenk and her colleague Anthony Cheung from San Francisco will demonstrate. Both have composed a score to accompany the silent movie Stump the Guesser by the Canadian avant-garde filmmaker Guy Maddin and the brothers Evan and Galen Johnson. A crude fantasy story with a retro look about a carney who wants to disprove Mendel’s genetics so that he might marry his sister. Could things get more grotesque? Funnier? Perhaps in the world premiere of Strand by the British composer Richard Ayres and the animated filmmaker Paul Barritt.
